How a house is built
Rain in this region
Western Washington is wet and slow to dry. Overhangs, drained cladding, and grade that falls away match that weather.
Arrow keys turn the house. Plus and minus, or the zoom buttons, change the zoom. A horizontal drag turns it after you tap the drawing. Reset view returns to the step camera.
The drawing needs WebGL. The notes on the page still stand.
The Puget Sound climate is mild and wet. Rain comes for much of the year, and a wall that gets wet in winter may not dry until spring. The regional habits that match that are simple: a roof overhang where the massing allows it, cladding that drains behind the face, flashings that kick water out, and soil that slopes away from the wall.
The coast takes harder wind-driven rain than an inland Seattle lot. Seismic design still applies across the region. This house is a teaching model with a gable, a hip, and a drained-cladding idea. It is not a coastal assembly and not a seismic design.
